Looking for title of book

A friend just told me about a book written by a man who "started over", I believe in South Carolina, though I could be wrong. He went there with $25 in his pocket and some clothes. He stayed in homeless shelters, ate at soup kitchens, etc, ended up finding a job/jobs, eventually getting a place to live and saved about $5000 in a 9-month period. I really would like to purchase this book for my friend, but he does not remember the name of the author or the title of the book. Does this sound familiar to anybody?
