I think it's called something like "Grandma's garden" (but I've searched that and can't find it) It's a beautifully illustrated short story for young children about a little boy who meets a mysterious little girl in his Grandma's garden, who is actually his Grandma when she was a little girl
Tom's Midnight Garden (?) He went to stay with his aunt I think, who lived in a flat in a large converted house, in the attic flat lived an old lady who turns out to be the little girl he meets in the garden at night.
That looks like a wonderful book, but it's not the one I was thinking of, which is for very young children. Having read the synopsis and reviews on Amazon though I'd like to get that one too.
