I would like to buy my daughter some timeless books for bedtime reading She is 3 and I'm thinking along the lines of the hungry caterpillar, the tiger who came to tea, where the wild things are. Can anyone suggest any others. Many thanks

In addition to the Janet and Allen Ahlberg Each Peach Pear Plum (which I can still recite after some 20 years or so) they also wrote Peepo, and The Jolly Postman. Can I also recommend Martin Waddell's Little Bear Stories -
"Can't you sleep little bear?", there are a few more stories of Little Bear and Big Bear which my daughter loved, she's now 24 and she has kept most of these story books (not sure why, maybe she'll give me some grandchildren some day)

The Brambly Hedge books were my absolute favourites when I was that age.. http:// www.ama zon.co. ...ompl ete/dp/ 0007450 168
The toddlers at work love The Velveteen Rabbit as well!
Other books I can remember are Angry Arthur, The Bad-Tempered Ladybird (by the same author as The Hungry Caterpillar) and Peace at Last which was my mum's favourite to read to me.. I wonder why!! haha! :)
