It was hilariously badly written pseudo porn, devised quite cleverly by someone with no writing skills whatsoever because they realised that there are whole swathes of society who are too embarassed / repressed/ conservative to allow themselves to watch or read proper porn, but they could be persuaded to part with their hard earned cash to read a ' novel'. Genius! But really not worth reading unless your sex life is even duller than the characters in the book.
I refused to read it after it turned many of my friends into giggling school girls about it all as if they were doing something naughty. However, well done to the woman who wrote it, blinding idea and she has bought her family a ginormous house (wish I'd bloody thought of it).
I haven't read it - I did read The Story of O years ago and didn't like it. Well, you might read it and like what's in it - but if your wife doesn't, I don't know where that leaves you. In your place, I'd take her advice.
NOX, I don't think it was actually that way at all. She wrote it initially as "fan porn" based on the Twilight books only ruder. From what I've heard she never imagined it would make her fortune and neither did anyone else much. So I wish her good luck. I just don't feel like reading it myself.
It was all the hype and spin that made it seem good. It is absolutely dreadful and I am glad I didn't spend any money buying it. Reading a couple of excerpts was bad enough. Still, I expect the author is laughing and giving the finger to us all on her way to the Bank.
see this is the thing, people accuse James of exploiting the public, but what about all these spoofs and ripoffs that have sprung up in her wake? She deserves her reward for being the one that thought of it all first, imho.
I think her bank account testifies her success, jno. One can't criticise her for that and the story of how it all came about is incredible, especially as she approached the story plot with no mapped out structure. It is fun to write like that and let the imagination run.
However, it isn't great writing, not at all, and NOX is correct, there is far better genre porn writing out there.....O is one if BDSM is your 'thing'.
In what sense, content no, writing yes. The issue with the writing is the emotional intensity portrayed of both main characters is, to say the least, very sketchy and inconsistent.
