My son did some silhouettes of his three children as a Christmas present to us. He did the more traditional black on white and they are excellent. You can recognise all the children with no bother at all.

I have a print of the absinthe drinkers by Degas(a great picture both funny and sad at the same time) which has faded over time. I thought to replace it but Heathfield's comment has made me pause for thought. Is a seemingly simple answer to the problem of a fading picture actually my subconscious preparing me for changes in the offing?

your local art supplies shop would be your best bet and you may find it easier to cut out with a scalpel with a number 11 or 10.5 blade. good luck.

............so, if you use a scalpel, you will need a nice, rubbery cutting board.

or a sheet of thick cardboard, maybe from packaging. can be got for free from stores when they throw cardboard boxes away.
