Usually dimwits say'It's like a TARDIS in here' when looking at houses which seem larger on the inside than the outside.
'dimwits' why 'dimwits, silvergirl? Are you an estate agent?
There are lots of synonyms for "large" but they miss out the element of "larger than I thought", hence the Tardis reference being so popular. I think you have to use a phrase such as "bigger than expected" or the aforementioned "larger than I thought".
