Name Of Book Please.

I'm trying to remember the author and title of a book which was read on Book at Bedtime about ? 6 months ago.
It was about a self serving and predatory young man - a writer - who màkes use of various benefactors and theñ gets rid of them. Not by murdèr but cruelly.
In one episode he is taken to Switzerland and meets Gore Vidal.
I have tried BBC Sounds but can't find anything that far back. Does this ring a bell with anyone? The title was something ĺike Reaching for the Moon. Thank you.
