I'm overstating my feelings, but I do find them pretty awful. I don't understand the appeal of caterwauling cats, and 'saucy Jacks', and phantoms of the opera; all got laboured plots and casts of people who can't sing, dance or act very well.
Sorry everyone! :-)

Atheist. Have you been to a musical in the West End?
Question Author
Gness, no I haven't.
Just wondered. A West End musical is just wonderful. It may not make a difference to you though.
I was told going to a live football match would make me think differently about football. It didn't.... :-)

Gness, I always loved live music; it's a world different from records. If I'd been up west to se a show I probably would have a different view of things.
ballet whats all that about, people are swans or something...although the dnacers look nice in lycra aka ladies
You may do, Atheist. Dave wasn’t a fan of musicals at all til he met me. He came to humour me and fell in love with them. Maybe give it a try.........if and when. :-(
I'm partial to the Janette Macdonald and Nelson Eddy musicals having watched the all, with my mum, when I was a child.

♫ When I'm calling you....♫

Gness, I loved live music and then played live music. I'm too old now to be interested in 'cheap' music. When I was involved there was a bit of integrity (or so we thought) about the game. When I left the business the seventies were kicking in and it was no place for me. David Bowie was great, but we were not on the same path. David knew how to work the game and retain integrity, I could never have done that, having only a tiny fraction of his talent.
I love live music. Well we have lots here! But musicals and live music are miles apart.
We’re you in a group or solo?
God knows as to Atheist, gness........ I wonder if he has a video/youtube track of him in action? Reveal all, Atheist!
favourite was Mary Poppins, like a child couldn't believe when she either left from the ceiling or flew up again.

all in the west end. worse was Mama Mia - absolutely dreadful and I do like Abba songs.

I have heard the Lion King is very good too tho I haven't seen it. God aren't we missing so much.
The king and I, south Pacific and west side story films are the only musicals I liked. Basically because of the songs. But in general I don't like musicals, especially on stage.
And Elaine Page on Sunday is turned off.

DTC Gness; it was all too long ago to have videos! Live album recorded at the Marquee, but even with Tony Visconti producing it wasn't routine to video stuff then!
Do you have an audio track that you can post on here, Atheist?
I've enjoyed some.... especially on stage. But I do find the mixture a bit jarring. Either act- or sing lol. It's strange to combine the two.
With the musicals I've seen on stage, I've liked the music most, and it just gets interrupted by speech... just do a concert.
Pixie, I feel just the same as you!
The only musical that sticks out in my mind is the movie version of The Music Man starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones made in 1957. I always get a kick out of this scene for some reason:
I`m not a fan. People suddenly bursting into song seems a bit bizarre to me (although I did like film Oliver when I was a child)
