I am after a book for my father, hopefully for christmas, written by arelative of ours, Tom Gleave, who was involved in The Battle of Britain, and was also a contributor to the film. The book is called 'I had a row with a german' and was published by MacMillan & Co ltd in 1941 I believe. If anyone knows where I may find a copy, or indeed has a copy, I would be grateful for any information.

Gleavy - it seems your relative didn't put his actual name on the book as the British Library list the authorship of this book as 'R.A.F. Casulty'. I'm sure it's the same one as the other details, title, publisher, year, etc. are correct. You can buy a copy from these people - http://www.teepublishing.co.uk/LISTS/milair.htm

Thanks for your help, the bloody book had been sold, but thanks for trying, cheers

Argh - I hope it wasn't bought by an opportunist who is now going to try to sell it to you at an outrageous price! lol. You might already know about this but, while I was looking for the book, I came across a couple of sites that mention it (the first one has a pic of your relative!).

It might be worth getting in touch with the owners of these sites - they might be able to help you locate a copy.

Oops - sorry, I was trying html for the first time and it obviously didn't work out! Here are the addresses again - http://www.queenvic.demon.co.uk/gpigpubs.htm and http://www.pnc.com.au/~insight/john_greenwood/lite

I'll ask at my local 'proper' bookshop if they know of a copy, if you like - I live in East Grinstead where the Guinea Pig Club was born.
Hi Gleavey,

Checked at the local shop and they will happily do an 'out of print' book search which involves an advert in the trade press. Any replies are referred to you with price, condition, etc. for approval before they get it for you. The search costs 3, they seem to have a reasonable success rate but it's unlikely you'd get it for Christmas. Let me know if you're interested and I'll give you their phone number or organise it for you....

Gleavy, did you locate a copy of this book? I ran across one a couple of days ago, in a hospital thrift shop in Tarrytown NY. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, as an echo of my childhood times in Kent. It is signed by the author, and is in good condition (although minus the dust jacket).
