I can also recommend 'Portrait of a Killer - Jack the Ripper, Case closed' by Patricia Cornwell. Another book that I've recently rediscovered is 'Happy Like Murderers' by Gordon Burn - documents the lives of Fred and Rosemary West. Quite a disturbing read, though.
How about In Cold Blood written by Truman Capote about a shotgun murder of a family in America in the 50s. It is really a good read and a bit of a classic.
I'd deffo recomend any of Dave Courtney's books, the Krays - The Geordie Connection, and Pablo Escobar.
Appart from that... Keep away from the Viv Graham books lol
