Poetry recommendations?

The oxford book of english verse is pretty all encompassing.

'Poem for the day' is good. and there is a sequel to that book, they are both excellent. A good mix of modern and old poetry, with some notes at the bottom that often help to understand the poem. But best thing I can suggest is set some time aside to go into your local bookshop, have a flick through the anthologies and see what catches your eye.
