Finnish is a bit of a mystery; it's very distantly related to Hungarian, but seemingly not to other languages, and nobody is sure why. But I don't think Icelandic is any more different than you'd expect of a language on an island a long way from other countries. (Likewise, it's not so surprising that Danish, Swedish and Norwegian are close.)
