I've got a reading list which has so far topped 70 (and that's not all of them!) for ONE course at uni. I'm not that rich (or that foolish) so does anyone know of any websites where I can buy obscure books for cheap(ish)? I've tried ebay, amazon and abebooks. They're 17th century gay / erotic literature if that helps. Thanks!
Do you actually have to read them? Also isn't there a second hand bookshop or you could group up with people on your course and buy a couple each then swap them.
In my day, students who had finished with their 'required reading' books would sell them on cheaply to freshers. At the start of the year, notice boards would be covered in ads for them
My uni reading list is always really expensive, I always go to ebay and amazon, but they can be very expensive too.
Try Abebooks - they are usually much cheaper.

just put the book title, author, publisher, into google and see what comes up it will often link you to obscure websites or private sellers book content may even have been uploaded on to a site - alternatley try putting a small add in a gay magazine there may be an avid collector who might be willing to loan you books.
British Libraray should have a copy of every book ever written so look on their web site.
Which Uni is it? My uni has a fabulous library and if they don't have the book you need you can get an interlibrary loan for about 2.50. Also you'll probably find they have a reciprocal arrangement with other local university librarys where you can go and borrow their books for free> Good luck. Don't spend your student loan on books. everyone knows it's for beer!!! enjoy
Fairkatrina Sometimes the books you are required to have are out of print. May I suggest bookfinder general, he is articulate & not expensive.
It may also be a good idea to let us know what books have been suggested
Good luck (been there)
Thanks all, yes I do have to read them, and it's a new Masters at Manchester so there aren't any previous students to sell the books on. I'd get them from the library but there's only 1 copy of each and they're on short-term loan...c'est la vie.
I've actually found most of them now, I'm just struggling with Fantomia by Haywood if anyone can help...
