My favourite poem is Sea Fever by John Masefield .
I remember having to learn it off by heart at school. Although we used to substitute the second line for something really silly !
Having grown up by the sea as a child and then moving to a town which although on a river was not near the sea this poem used to remind me of what was to me ,at that time of teenage angst , home.
I used to recite it for Eng Lit homework until I was word perfect and my Dad being a seafaring man for most of his life who then had to work on land always thought it was heartbreaking .In fact we read it at his funeral many years ago .
