What kind of Detective(s) does June Thompson have?d Hobson's C You mentioning plays reminded me of when I was at School and in the English Classes sometimes reading plays and apart from Toad of Toad Hole and Hobson's Choice they were all Murder Mysteries, I wish I knew the book where the plays came from and then I would buy it. In the Christie Collection I collected afew years ago were some Christie Plays which I haven't got around reading yet, Unfortunately they included THE MOUSETRAP which I think is a pity. I was interested to know you are Hometutoring your son as my Sister Home Tutored my niece until she was 9 and then she went to a small school and now she goes to a Secondary school.
Martha Grimes far as I know only had Richard Jury the other
was a bit like when Simpson did Harbingers of fear it was
totally random and nothing like.
How weird our next book we are about to start is Hobsons choice He has to do 3 pre war and 3 post war of novel play poetry for his GCSE's he's just turned 15. He started secondary school but I pulled him out as he was getting nowhere. He's doing ok now, literature he hated but oddly enough has developed a liking for Jane Austens work. Suits me as i'm a big fan. Im looking forward to Hobsons Choice as i've not read that before. The other book is Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry I think its called we havent started that yet but I dont think its going to be my sort of book from the write up. We did catcher in The Rye earlier this year and both of us hated every single page of it. I have never read anything so boring. Its been so many years since I left school I dont remember what we did except Lord of the Flies and I loathed that book and Silas Marner which wasnt a great deal better. The sylabus hasnt changed a great deal as Lord of the Flies is still on it. Of Mice and Men was one of the options but when he found out they shoot a dog in it he refused to read that. Our 2 pugs are his best pals or they think they are, where he goes they go.
The Agatha Christie is just a mottled cover with a red diamond shape on the front with the title across it in gold.
I'll have a look on the internet and see if I can spot it anywhere.

This is the same book but a later edition so im not sure what they would have added or taken out, this ones paperback too but prices for used copies started at 1.53
and they had 2-3 copies of it. If you have a look it will give you an idea of the one you are looking for

The Books I read at school were: Lord of The Flies, My Family and Other Animals, To Kill A Mockingbird and Arms and Cider With Rosie, I loved My Family and Other Animals and have recently bought it to read again sometime, I didn't really like Arms and The Man, To Kill a Mocking Bird or Cider with Rosie very much and I remember reading another where a baby gets killed and has something to do with Oysters I think but I can't remember the Title, Thankyou for the link, I can't seem to add the page to my Bookmarks at the moment but I will save this page and do it tomorrow or Friday, By the way My neice is 12, Happy New Year.
I loved My family and other animals. I named my first dog I had Widdle from the dogs in that Widdle and Puke.
I didnt like Cider with Rosie but my daughter loved it. I have no idea what book a baby got killed in doesnt ring bells with me but i'm rather glad it doesnt if its as bad as it sounds lol. Im sure the schools would get more interested in Literature if they put some better books on the syllabus, it hasnt changed much in donkeys years.
How is your niece finding it at school after home schooling must have been quite a difference.
Happy new Year to you as well, hope its a good one for you.

I liked the 2 Old ladies in Cider With Rosie and I like that I have read a book which is set near me like The Betty Rowlands books but it isn't on my list of books I would choose to read again, like the Thanet Books, Mel Craig Books and most of the Agatha Christie books I have read. The Teachers at the school mu niece goes to seem to be pleased with her but I think my niece is at a stage where she doesn't like school and my sister is sad that some of her innocense has gone and she uses expressiopns I don't understand (She was talking about her and her friends going shopping the other day and said one friend was "RANDOM" so I had to ask my sister what it meant) I hope your boy keeps on doing well.
I know what you mean about school my son hated school, my others didnt fare too well they got bullied so it wasnt really a hard decision to pull him out. Now I wished i'd done the same with the others though they survived and all did extremely well. I had one head tell me when my son got bullied it was his fault as he was too well mannered and polite. Since when was that a crime. I do worry sometimes about the social aspect as they have to go out in the world but he seems to be Ok and seems to still pick up on the trends. Though some I wish he wouldnt.
By the time i'm familiar with an expression they've moved on to another one. I have facebook and half the time I have no idea what people are saying but it did help me keep in contact when my son was at uni and share his news and photos etc rather than waiting for visits home.
I might re-read my Dorothy Simpsons now, you mentioning them set me off thinking I might quite like to re-read them.
I dont have many as I rely on library books alot but i've enough to enjoy her all over again.

It seems to me more and more Politeness is a thing of the past and there is so much aggression these days and The me Television programmes and in turn Teachers and the Media encourage it. There are Good things about Society Today such as the up-sides of Technology but sadly there are good and bad things about everything or so it seems, I have joined both Facebook and there seems to be aggression on there too. I have also joined Friends Reunited, both have really opened up my world but I personally prefer Friends Reunited as I find it less complicated. I was lucky enough to collect all 15 Thanet books and 11 Mel Craig Books and was sad when I finished both Series of books which is one reason why I am trying to find others to replace them.
I totally agree with you. Good manners costs nothing is what my mum used to drum into me. I think its very sad the way things have gone. Theres still a lot of good in the world but sadly its fast getting overshadowed by the not so nice.
Anthea Fraser has some good books I find them hard to come by and never usually in good condition when I do but worth the hunt Alot are the lines of a verse as titles like 6 Proud Walkers 7 Bright Shiners. I really like hers. I get a bit lost on Facebook but I am getting there slowly.

I will have to look up Anthea Fraser as I have never heard of her before, I have heard of Lady Antonia Fraser who created Jemima Shore but not Anthea Fraser, Your Mum, was right. I get lost on Facebook too, with the wordage and all the things people can send you but I ncan keep up with what various friends and Family are doing and I can join groups, I have joined groups for Agatha Christie, P. G. Wodehouse, Brian Cant, Richard Digance and the Film Labyrinth as well as shown support for causes like Asthma and Emphaemia but I steer clear from what I don't understand or from doing things which mean |I will be asked for my Mobile Number.
I'd never give my phone number over the internet either its asking for problems. Groups I belong to include Noddy Cherry Ames John Thaw they are about the only bookish ones I think. I have joined a few groups but must sort them out as some I really dont take any part in so its pointless.
I do have my own group on Facebook Oddbods Theatre Group. I started the group about 6-7 years back for ordinary people to have a go at performing on stage with no auditions no cliques just a bit of fun and all the money goes to good causes and its still going strong and has its own Facebook group. and website http://www.oddbods.org.uk/ I also run a quiz website http://www/sitesaveronline.co.uk/quiz thats just promoting quizzes being sold for charity.
I love Labrynth. Thats a brilliant film. I love the whats his name fellow who escorts her through the labrynth is it Hoggle my brain isnt working tonight.

I like Labyrinth but I can't remember the Charactevoted to er you mean, I joined the Group after my nephew sent me a link, Although I have been on the net for over 2 years I haven't got the nack of sending links to people so if you want to join the group you will have to look it up, I looked at your theatre group and will have a closer look when I have more time, I love the Theatre and went often until circumstances meant I couldn't. I tried looking up the Quiz site but had problems accessing it so I will try another time. If I can work out how to do it I am thinking of starting a Facebook Group devoted to The Beiderbeck Trilogy 3 Series about a Bix Beiderbeck Fan and a Female Colleague, My sister bought me the DVDs for Christmas
My youngest son set my facebook groups up for me and he did my website. My middle son is a dancer/singer he's hoping to audition for the west End soon as he's just finished a 6 month job in Majorca at a top resort. He would give it up tomorrow to be a ballet dancer but unfortunately took ballet up too late. I go to as many shows as I can that he's in but other than that I dont go much. Its a bit beyond my budget. I dont know the trilogy you mentioned I will have to look it up and see what it is. Im determined to re-read my book collection this year and try and complete some sets.
Good Idea, I want to finally read the Sherlock Holmes books my brother Bought me years ago as well as read more Ann(e) Grainger books and try the Authors I have heard of and listed in my Bookmarks, I would really like to try the Sukie Reynolds books by Betty Reynolds but the cost of the books I've seen are well over my budget I have put Anthea Fraser on my list of books to read.
Books certainly are expensive now even paperbacks are out of my budget these days. I do get some on Amazon in fact I got one on there for 1p the other week so even with the postage it was cheap. Do you have a freecycle group in your area as you can often pick up some on that. Im in Northamptonshire which has a reasonable amount of charity shops for books but I get alot of my best finds from the library when they have book sales theres nearly always ones I collect being got rid of.
I don't know if there is a Free Cycle service in my area, I have heard of it after seeing a team of people who spoke about it on the Quiz programme Eggheads but I haven't looked up the service as I don't think I would have anything to swap, I buy some books off of ebay and have been introduced to casshback sites so buy some books from them, my friend alsdo introduced me to survey sites where I do on-line surveys which give me money or vouchers once I have done enough.
