I am trying to find a book i read years ago about a man in his 30's who dies and comes back as the same person at a younger age and starts his life afresh. He changes thihngs each time and life begins anew. This happens 2-3 more times.

He realises this is happening each time and relives those times in different ways.

This is a brilliant book-he arrives back in his old high school dorm and makes his money first with a totally unpredictable superbowl result and picks up a girl (Pamela?) and starts a new life, initially as a Vegas highroller. Eventually finds that there are more like him when he's a hermit by Mount Shakasta (I might be imagining that name) when a hit movie (Starburst-Seamist-something like that) which is bigger than Star Wars and he can't remember, and there is the weird guy that thinks that the point of his reappearing over and over is to kill lots of people to 'please the gods that let him come back'.  He goes through the swinging sixties and has lots of sex in France and vows never to have kids after his children disappear after he comes back again.  This was just straight Sci-Fi but it was so resonant, somehow it just slots itself into the hard drive as a superb book-needs to be a film one day, so they can ruin it though probably.  I've got it somewhere-must dig it out.
