What did Rabbie Burns write in? Was it dialectic Scots or Gaellic, or what?

As well as standard English, Burns wrote in Lallans, which is a dialect of English. The word itself is just a corruption of the English word 'Lowlands', the southern lowlands of Scotland being the area in which that particular form of the language was - and is - spoken.

I would have to take a wee bit of issue here. Lallans is a dialect of Scots rather than a dialect of English. It is more akin to anglo-saxon than english. I don't have too much time right now to write more now (dashing out to a meeting) but Wikipedia has a fairly concise wee definition of the Scots language. I am more familiar with Braid Scots than the Lallans although I never find it too difficult to read or understand Lallans.
