My mum who is in her 70s is off on her first holiday abroad with the girls in Feb!!!

She isnt a big reader of books, i dont think she has much patience !! she reads mainly mags and papers..but I want to get her an easy to read book while shes sunning herself!

I was thinking on the lines of Maeve Binchy, but not sure of the story lines of these..anybody got any other ideas??

If she likes the magazines that have short stories in you might be able to get an annual; I brought my grandma the People's Friend annual last Christmas and she really liked that!
Mine's 80 and (despite what she says) prefers easier reads. One series she has liked very much is the 'Agatha Raisin' series, by M C Beaton. Agatha Raisin is a business lady who retires to a Cotswold village, only to find herself a role as a latter day Miss Marple - only a little less sedate!
"No Time For Goodbye" by Linwood Barclay. An easy read and a real page turner from the word go.
No 1 Detective Agency books by Alexander McCall Smith are little gems. Not too long either if she doesnt have the concentration or patience for weightier books
My mother who had been brought up to think that reading novels was 'lazy' read her first one at 65! She was then hooked and was never without one. Her first author was Rosamund Pilcher 'The Shell Seekers'
