40S Hairstyle

I've been asked to be a +1 at a dinner/dance in May (formal attire).

I have shoulder-length very dark hair. Could I please have an idiot's guide on how to create a 40s hair-do?

Try searching youtube for a 'how to do a 40's hairstyle' guide. Some of them are pretty good and they show you what products to use as well as a step by step guide.

I used to do mine in what they called a page-boy bob. Try to get your hair to curl under, not out and then if you can get some clips, or bobby pins try to get the side bits clipped up so that the curl falls round your lower face.

There is a huge choice in boxtops link although some of them look more like thirties styles rather than forties. Veronica Lake is quite good but you need really long hair for that style and you need to keep it simple. You don't want to keep fussing with it all night and some of those with curls round the top kept falling down (believe me, I know from bitter experience). You need a lot of clips to keep them up.
