Haircuts when you were school age

Ladies did your mother ever make you get a short bob haircut in school years OR worse have you cut short like a boys haircut ? Maybe your mum or dad cut your hair was it drastic? Or did dad ever get his barber to trim your hair after him in the barbershop? Anyone got a interesting story to tell.

Worse - sometimes Mother scraped every single hair back into a ponytail with such ferocity it made me look Japanese - I think this was the 60's version of today's chelsea facelift. It was painful. When the laggy band was taken out at night my head throbbed for a good hour afterwards.

I had long curly thick hair that reached way down my back. The day before I was sent to a boarding school, just before my 10th birthday, I was given a short back and sides as my mum thought it would be easier for me to take care of. I hated it and have always associated having my hair short with bad times in my life. I will have hair below my shoulders till the day I die.
omg i had lovely long hair all the way down my back then some new kid started my school and kept giving us all lice. So i had 2 have it cut really short looked like a boy i was only 7 and cried for days then when i got over it i made best friends with the new kid 2 catch lice to prove i could still catch it
wow some amazing stories here so far. The ones about fringes and head lice are common i think its a power thing with parents cutting a girl short. Solitude your story particulary is interesting you must have been nervous going to boarding school as it was so being given a short back and sides Must have been terrible. Was it cut in a salon or a barbershop at the time ? what year was this done can you recall. I dont think children get bad drastic haircuts like they dished out years ago. I hope to hear more interesting stories thankyou.
I had drastic haircuts from barbers myself after school and i hated them im sure many of the barbers some years back took great delight in shearing a boys neck and sides as close to the skin as possible . And if that wasnt bad enough brylcream or some kind of hair oil was applied at the end and you literally looked and felt Totally different to the boy who walked in the shop. Being shy as many boys were then i hated /dreaded / and lothed the process . You sometimes have to post every so often to catch different people reading your question. Its not a fetish thing annie its learning how others felt and what experiences they had or went through. Your probably a woman who was lucky and didnt get scalped short . Im perfectly normal i assure you . Thankyou to thouse who had wrote so far. i hope annie hasnt put the dampener on others.

I don't want to seem like a stalker or anything, but did you have some traumatic event that has this praying on your mind?

Answer bank has a more mature audience i feel answers its questions . sometimes you can post a hair question and get very little replys back so it you try months later you catch new people who maybe JUST might have a story like some of the people here already.Obviously you werent affected but the cuts you had some people never get over what they experienced i did but i still think back of those days how different it is to now. Theres no harm in asking questions people DONT have to answer they do because they WANT to and understand what it was like. Sadly your the one who is now beginning to sound strange. Why not tell your haircut story like everyone else rather than implying things.
Not a childhood story but........ years ago in the 60's my dad was posted to cyprus and my mum went to have her hair done in a local salon........well....we could hear her coming back down the road sobbing.. the cut, the backcombing, the hard as helmet laquer, the straight under the shower!!! which just made the laquer worse. Oh I'm sorry mum( if you are hovering around in the ether) but it still makes me laugh . Karma for my wonky Joan-of-Arc fringe.
A week before I was to be a bridesmaid for my brother's wedding, (I was 10) I decided to cut my fringe. I just picked up the scissors and chopped, I was left with a sort of tuft about an inch long! I can still see my mum's face now and the poor hairdresser who was expected to put it right, she sort of stuffed it under the flowery head-dress.
