I have been having little "mishaps" and my GP said she would get me an appt for the oncology clinic, but the appt has come for the gynae clinic, do you have to see gynae first ? also has anyone had this "procedure" done to stop this and is it succesful ?

look I am over 70 years young and not very technical, I think I meant urology, pls dont shoot me down in flames. I am getting very nervous and thinking of cancelling the appt unless I can find out a bit more.

Dee Sa.....wasn´t "shooting you down" just making sure that I had the facts right before I answered..........the treatment of incontinence is quite different in the Oncology Clinic as it would be in the Urology Clinic.

The result of an operation for incontinence would depend upon the cause of the incontinence and until that is established, your answer cannot be accurately answered.

What you are experiencing is extremely common in ladies of advancing years, I work with such people daily, this is not an insurmountable problem and things can be done to help with this. Don't give up, just get the right advice. xx

Have you given any thought to what could be causing the problem, like eating to much chocolate or whatever? ie: I have to keep away from plain chocolate for that reason.

thanks for the answers, will go now, dont eat sweets or chocolate but like a tipple before dinner.it used to be a bit annoying but lately its got worse, so I decided to seek help, but unfortunately have a phobia about hospitals, clinics and even GP s so its taken quite a bit of courage to get so far !

dee sa. please dont cancel your appointment, do you have anyone who can go with you, i am no expert but what you are experiencing is very common, and the doctor at the clinic may be able to give some treatment which will improve the situation for you. never appologise for " not being technical " join the club :)

It may be that your GP referred you to the Gynae department because he/she thought that your problems were gynae-related rather than, or as much as, bladder-related.
Or that he/she thought you needed a gynae opinion as well as an urology one and the gynae appointment has come through first.
Either way, please go and you will find out whether you need to see the urologists as well as the gynaecologists.
Your problem can often be very successfully treated by medication alone rather than any 'procedures', but it depends on its cause.
Please go. It could change your life so much for the better.

Dee Sa, good for you for being open about it, so many people aren't. I wouldn't worry that it's in gynae, perhaps they just want to make sure that all is well with the gynae bits before they look at the reasons for the leaks (and don't we all do them, but not all own up to it...?). Let us know how you get on, you may have some hints for the rest of us!

if the gynaes do their checks first it will save time... I've had 'mishaps for years since my hysterectomy..... its so common if half the ladies on here were immune I'd be very surprised.....

thanks to everyone for being so supportive, my hubby is reg blind but has offer to come with but I think I would better on my own at this stage.
will keep you up to date appt is first week in April, I have been told the first thing they check for is a prolapse, but the lady GP [ locum] said this was not so !.

Ive spent 2 hours at the local surgery gyne clinic this morning. I suffer from Urge Incontinence and the GP has tried but failed to cure me with tablets. It was not a pleasant experience but I feel reassured that creams and changes in lifestyle should put me back on track. If they have a local clinic rather than a trip to the hospital it would be better but either way you must attend and get sorted to feel yourself once more. I am feeling much more optimistic now.
