i have to have one of these done today and im really really scared ... ive read how ppl have been close to tears with the pain i will be on my own and dont know if im gonna be able to handle it... will i be able to drive home or am i going to be in agony?......when i rang hospital to make appointment they kept saying abruptly that i have to have stopped all bleeding of my period why is that so important?... i finished yesterday but may have a little left inside me as when i wipe after loo theres just a tiny bit pink but nothing on a sanitary all day..... sorry for 2 much info .... is it fine to have this done.... its for fertility issues and if i dont have it done i doubt the consultant will send for me or give me any help

Try not to worry.
It does hurt, but like a period pain. It's not unbearable and only last for a short time.
When I had it done, many years ago, everyone was absolutely lovely to me. The nurse held my hand all the way through and warned me about the pain.
You have to have this done, or your infertility investigations/treatment cannot progress. try to focus on that.
I would have it again if I had to and would have had it again then if I had had to, if you see what I mean.

what worries me is the unknown i know everyone is different i can handle smears if they dont make the spectulm spread too much that it feels as though wont stop spreading it if you know what i mean its just they wernt very nice on the phone so i hope they are nice with me today... im dreading it

just an update....... had it done and it hurt like hell if they want another they will have to knock me out....it wasnt very nice at all dont know if it hurt so much as i was just on day 5 of my cycle maybe it wouldnt of hurt so much a bit later i dont know but not an eperience i want again thats for sure
