My toddler has come out in a few red spots today on his tummy, back, arm, neck and head. around 12 altogether. They look suspiciously like chickenpox but because he hasnt got hardly any more as the day has gone on I'm doubting whether it is or not. People are telling me to take him to the doctor but is there any point?

Hi Tigs, you would be better of taking the little one top the doc just to be on the safe side.
Smelling mistake - should be take TO the doc!!

Hi Julian, how are you doing? Great to see you on here again.
look up chickenpox on google, leave it a few days for symptoms to appear, if they dont and you think it may be something sinister take to docs, if turns out its likely to be chickenpox dont take to docs as may spread it to people whch isnt good especially pregnant women.

Yeah that was my thought really 4get. If he has loads more in morning I will know its definitely that. He is fine in himself but has has the tell tale runny nose too. His sister had it really bad and she came out in more and more spots very quickly but I guess they are all different.
Tigs, bit ropey and lonely but that will pass with time, I guess. I'm only on for a short time while am in the office (probably til 8) then back full time from next monday. New avatar is Sylvia with our eldest granddaughter Caitlin (5)
Some children only have a few spots tigwig but if your daughter has just had it I would think it very likely your little one has it too. He may not necessarily have it so bad as she did.

You are right, it will get easier with time. I thought that must be Sylvia. Dont work too hard! Take care and I will see how Bubba is in the morning thanks.
Don't ake to the doc's?
<sucks through teeth>
Surely not expecting a GP to make a home vist these days? I hear they are far too important for that.
docs dont need to see them if its chicken pox
Ah I see. Can't beat those new fangled video phones for making a diagnosis then.
Question Author
Sorry I didnt make that clear about my daughter, she hasnt had it recently it was 4 years ago!
Old geezer of course I dont expect the doc to make a home visit!
If in doubt phone the surgery to check what their policy is.
4get is correct.....wait and see...........no need to see a doctor.

Old_Geezer.........home visits by doctors are by and large a waste of time and of valuable resources..............it is a British concept rarely replicated in any other country.
Question Author
Well he has more today but still isnt covered. I have phoned the docs and I am taking him to get it confirmed as being a childminder looking after 2 other 2 yr ols who havent had it their mums want to know for definite too.
The only other possibility now is that he has just finished a course of antibiotics (Amoxycillin). I myself am allergic to penicillin and I came out in a rash when I was 2! So maybe it could be this?
tigwig......the red spots should be fluid filled "blebs" by no if it is chicken pox, but if this is not the case, then it is almost certainly an allergic rash to the amoxycillin.
Question Author
They are still appearing! The ones he had yesterday are getting fluid filled but I'm still not 100% There was no doubt whatsoever when his sister had it, she was absolutely covered. He is rather narky in himself too although I suppose thats nothing new lol.

<<<<<<The ones he had yesterday are getting fluid filled <<<<

Then it IS chicken pox.
...and the other two kiddies are probably already infected, give it a week or so & it will appear.Best to get it over and done with when they're small.

My H had it when he was 40 and was quite ill with it.

Yeah I think your right but I need the confirmation. I would be amazed if the other 2 didnt get it they are here for 10 hours everyday with him!
