what might have bit me in the night?

This has happened twice now in the past two or three months. I have awoken to find a small amount of dried blood on my chin, and a painful scratch underneath. I went to bed with nothing there, so something has got to me in the night. Dont think for one minute that I have scratched myself, and have also checked and there is nothing to resemble bedbugs in my very clean bed!! (do spiders bite?) any suggestions.... TIA

Spiders don't bite. Maybe a flea from a cat or dog, or a bug?

Oh yes they do but in UK there is only one spider that bites painfully, in the US there are many. Dollie are you US based ?
If not, it's more likely to be a mozzie, the ones to look out for are quite big and have stripey legs like a beleisha beacon pole.

I can't think of any insect that would leave a 'scratch'.

Do you have a cat, i often wake with unexplained injuries... I expect tho its a mozzy and you've scratched youself 'itching' it

I thought similar to mcfluffy. Any such injuries on me would be more likely to be cat related though I have quite long nails so if I scratched something during the night bit could well leave a mark and blood.

Thanks all for replies. No I do not have a cat, and have not seen any fleas, but I never gave mosquitos a thought, although they are in abudance in Britain these days so that could be the answer. Dont think its my nails, as they are very short, but I will go back to the drawing board on this one and keep a closer eye on what is going on in my bedroom. Thanks all again. Doll x
