Sorry about this one, but I have had this problem a while now and really must get to the doctors but some how it just seems a waste of time as I am in no pain, but just have this awful problem, its been like it probably at least 6 months and I thought perhaps it was my age, I put everything down to that. Im 49, and going through the menopause, all the usual symptoms. I have been taking 5htp for the mood swings etc, but this is only a recent move and doesnt coincide with this. I have in the past had a lot of bladder infections but normally have all the other symptoms with it but this time nothing else. Has anyone else experienced this, or have anything to advise?

is there any discolouration to it? xx
It may well just be dietary, but as you have had recurrent bladder infections in the past, it may be a symptom of underlying cystitis. Some metabolic diseases e.g diabetes may give the urine an odd smell....see your GP
this may help: ???
you might start helping yourself with a cranberry juice or a cranberry extract. If this does not help in few days, you might want to visit your family doctor to prescribe an antibiotic treatment, for at least 10-14 days.

Thanks for your reply.
Sometimes i have a bit of pain in my bladder but no pain when i pee. Had this trouble since i had Laporoscopy in August.
old answer used to be too much asparagus or onion
tommy_h could be right, especially about the asparagus.

Some years ago, my wee suddenly developed a pungent smell – such that I was convinced that I had a urinary infection. I checkout out the symptoms on a very basic medical/diagnostic program that I had on my PC at the time. It advised of the possible cause being due to having consumed asparagus – which was indeed the case.

Thaku but never eat asparagus
Could be diabetes - you don't necessarily lose weight when you have it
gsr600, Whilst Cranberry juice has been talked about for years in respect of UTI's apparently it will do absolutely nothing to cure a UTI, however drinking a couple glasses of Cranberry Juice each day will often help to prevent the onset of UTI's.
Obesity can contribute to diabetes, or losing weight. It is a very peculiar ailment as it has so many conflicting symptoms. Best to get it checked.
I had recurring cystitis and the professor at the hospital told me to eat natural yoghurt every day, drink two glasses of cranberry juice (I drink one in the morning and one in the evening) and he also prescribed a very small dose of hrt once a week. I was taking antibitiotics as well, but when these were finished I have gone on doing the other things he suggested, and (touch wood - I am a little bit superstitious) it seems to be keeping it away. Over a year now.

Hi everyone thanks for the answers, just come back to give an update, went to the drs Monday armed with a urine sample, the dr thinks there was evidence of infection, so put me on antibiotics, and sent he sample off for testing. I have noticed an improvement and there is now no smell. However, just called for test result and the receptionis said there was no infection, up intake of fluids nd go back to doctor if still worried.??? Very odd, I will continue the course of antibiotics and then see what happens. Thanks once again for your answers.
tilly...thanks for the update.
