The very last thing you want to do in the case of constipation, in my view, is to try and clear it out with a process of irrigation - taking a laxative would be far better for you.
There is a false idea, widely believed and circulated, that side effects that people suffer as a consequence of constipation, such as headaches, or fatigue, or loss of appetite / irritability are a side effect of those pesky chemicals being reabsorbed from the poo in the gut. This is, in fact, wrong. Rather, those side effects are a mechanical side effect of expansion of the gut size.
Laxatives are a far more efficient way of clearing the "blockage", as it were, and much less dangerous, to boot.
