I would presume that you have had a rectum excised (Abdomino-perineal resection) the anus closed over and a colostomy.

Is this correct?

No the tumour is quite near the anus and fairly large the plan at moment is shrink the tumour as small as possible and reasses .I am on avastin along with the normal chemo drugs
owd.....a difficult problem....do you mean they are normal bowel movements OR discharge, in which case, is it a bloody discharge or a colourless discharge?
Question Author
A colourless discharge,mucus.
Ok....that doesn't indicate an infection, but a reaction of the lining of the anus to your chemo. There is nothing that can stop this as it is also acting on the tumour cells themselves and I can only suggest that you wear a pad or sanitary towel.

Not the answer you wanted, but the best that I can offer.

Keep us informed.

Thanks for hrlp sqad,i wear large tena pads at the moment and it is said as the tumour shrinks, the dischsrge will go less, I actually feel quite well but i also suffer from parkinsons and find the drugs for parkis are only about 50% effective. But i look on the bright side and according to one of the registrars have an average of 2 yrs to live ,not bad as i thought august was out on a bad day.May i also say starting with my gp a great bloke, to all the nurses ,doctors, misters , tea ladies i have had nothing but the finest care, compassion and treatment
owd...nice one.
.Can I just offer my best wishes to you owdhamer .My husband has been through the same thing as you are undergoing .Luckily he didn't have to have chemo but a permanent stoma .His wound where they closed his rectum took ages to heal with lots of discharge and a pad is useful Sqad advised .

But as you can't get out much ,I would also enquire about district nurses who can come and check and keep it clean for you to prevent an infection and provide you with proper dressings .They did this for my husband on a daily basis for quite a while .
All the best to you .Don't give up hope .
i hope you improve as time passes. take care .
