I was prescribed one month's supply for acid reflux. Does anyone take these permanently ? I don't want my problem to return after I stop.
There wasn't a repeat prescription with them and I wondered if I have to keep going back to the doctor to ask for more. Many thanks.

This is a lifetime drug therapy, like insulin is to the diabetic and thyroxine is to the hypothyroid.......get used to it.

I would have thought that the doc would want to see you again after the month, to see how your condition had improved? They wouldn't issue a repeat unless they knew you needed a regular supply.
I have been on them for 6mths. Forgot them for a couple of days and the symptoms came back. It all depends on how severe your reflux is. I was prescribed them after scarring was spotted on the oesophagus from acid but had no other symptoms except as when I forgot them and got the usual heartburn symptom which I didn't have before!! Rx

Yes, as sqad said, you just have to live with it. I have been on them for a few years now as I have GARDS and cannot go without them, if I forget I have terrible heartburn. My husband is now also on them. I have to take two each day.
yes have been on these for about fifteen years, if i forget to take it i get awful heartburn, so you had better get used to them its a lifetime thing

Thank you all so much for the replies. No worries about taking them every day, as Sqad says, I'll just get used to it.
I was on it for a short while before a gall bladder op, and then stopped.
I was prescribed these as I was suffering from very bad pain between the shoulders which was diagnosed as indigestion. I took them for a week, the pain went, stopped taking them and have not had the problem again. It was a great relief as I had had no sleep for a week as I could not get comfortable.
I stopped taking them a month ago and have had no reflux since. Mind you, I think I was prescribed them as a precaution when I had pancreatitis before it was diagnosed, and have been on them ever since. I suddenly decided to stop all the medication I was given at the time (two years ago) and feel none the worse for it.
