Afternoon all,

For the past few years, my knees have been really achey and "creaky". This only really happens in the morning, but has got worse recently and now my ankles feel the same!
When I get up in the mornings, I almost find it difficult to walk for about 5 or 10 minutes as my knees, and now my ankles, are all stiff.
There's no pain, just stiffness.

Do you think it could have something to do with the colder weather, maybe? I have no idea.

Don't think it's a reason to visit the doctor, so thought I would ask on here.

Thanks :)

oh dear ,best you go and get it checked out then still sounds like the dreaded arthur scargill to me maybe you have done alot of sport or running in the past.

I have done a fair bit of running, and cycling actually. Hmm...

My brother in law is the same age as me and he suffers with arthritus in his hands. He said it sounded similar to his "aches".
What happens though if it carries on getting worse? Knee replacements? Hip replacements? All before I reach forty?!! :((
it's unlikely you'll need those that quickly, but just to let you know, it's not the end of the world if you do - i had 2 knees and 2 hips (replacements) before i was 38 :)
Well, there are one or two things that come to mind, but early days to put one's money on any particular diagnosis.

I would take Ibuprofen on awakening, perhaps 400mgms and would monitor the situation over the ensuing few weeks.
I'm interested here, coz I've had knee pains too, when I run.

I'm not sure about 400mg of Ibuprofen. Mine are 600mg per tablet. I took three when I went to bed last night.
JJ...do you mean 3*600mgms......18oomgms?
I was diagnosed with arthritis in my late twenties and had had symptoms for a while and I'm nowhere near (touch wood) anything being replaced for at least the forseeable future if ever. It's a very wide ranging disease scope wise so even if it is, don't panic about worst case scenarios.
I'm only 21 and I get this, I find it difficult to straighten my legs when I first get up in the mornings. Then throughout the day if I sit in a position too long with my legs bent, my knees get sore and they click when I straighten them again. xx
Sorry, sqad ... I went out (and got caught speeding) =0(

Yes, I mean 3 x 600 mg tablets = 1,800.
I had a hip replacement two years ago due to arthritis, and I think I'll probably have to have the other one done soon. Aches in my back first thing in the morning then my knees are stiff and then my feet and ankles and hands on cold days. My GP wouldn't prescribe Ibrupropen (the cause of stomach bleeding)and advised me to take paracetamol up to eight a day. He also sent me to a physio there I was told to keep exercising and walking. So that is what I do. I'm not looking forward to the cold weather.
I tell you, all this keep fit nonsense aint no good for you!!
Hey, RATTER ... x
JJ, you carry on with Ibuprofen like that you will be having stomach ulcers amongst other problems!!

Tell her off Sqad!!!
Personally, if I was you I would get some glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM tablets from Holland and Barrett and maybe some cod liver oil capsules and try that for a couple of months and see how it goes.
I feel like that most days now, my hips are generally quite stiff and my knees can ache. They ache particularly at the moment since I've just done my first zamba class... fun though!
RATTER ... I don't take them continuously ...

Just when I want the pain to GO AWAY !

(it does!)
JJ!! Dont do it again!!!!
JJ Good morning my darling. Sorry about the "speed rozzer".....I was only caught once in the UK but was let off by a woman P.C who said "it must be difficult to keep under 30mph in these big cars"...LOL.

No I lie...I was also "done " for speeding on the front at Brighton taking a nurse home after a party to her room at Hove General......happy days..........the happiest of my life.

Now I didn't realise that one could get 600mgm Ibuprofen in the UK, but RATTER is right 1800mgms is a hefty dose.........doesn't 1200mgms do the trick?
