Steroid jab

I've had a steroid injection in my shoulder today. I was warned that a few hours later and tomorrow were likely to be painful, he wasn't joking! As advised I have taken paracetemol which has helped, but not enough. Would a bag of frozen peas or a hot water bottle help ease the discomfort, or a clove in my armpit, anything????

I have a high pain threshold but this is nasty, I've had steroid jabs in my knuckles before and am surprised how painful this one has been.

nisads are anti inflamatory eg ibruprophen,asprin,diplofenic,naproxen etc

I didn't think that Aspirin was a Nsaid.........but I might be wrong.......

oh yes asprin is anti inflamatory..... agree with you ecclescake in the restoratve power of gin and tonic.

nannybody...thank you....I didn;t realise....I just thought it was a pain killer with NO anti inflammatory properties.

I also thought that NSaids if contra indicated at all, were contraindicated against oral steroids....EcclesCake has parenteral steroids.

Is that the same then?

When my husband had a very painful reaction to a steriod injection in the shoulder the doctor advised him to try a hot water bottle for half an hour then ice for half an hour and to keep doing that. It did work after a while of me running up and down stairs whilst trying to run a pub!

i can only go my own experience and i've never been allowed to take nisads with steriods,but eccles doc will know best, howeverI always ask what i can and cant have in the way of pain releive...better to be sure than wanting more help and not knowing

I think I'll go for the gentle paracetemol and heat treatment with regular doses of G&T. In a day or two if the pain changes back to dodgy shoulder pain I'll return to the Diclofenac (with gin if it shows therapeutic qualities).

I had a kenalog injection for inflammatory arthritis. I was dreading it after hearing my mum saying about horribly painful steroid injections in her shoulders for osteo arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome. I was bracing myself during the countdown and I hardly felt the needle! Was amazed though it was given as a jab in the bum so maybe less painful than a joint (?) - and I have ample "padding" I guess :)

I was saying to the rhumatology bloods nurses after and apparently that nurse has a knack of making it painless! I think she used a numbing thing as well and I am NHS. Maybe it's a knack though I've have thought it could be less painful having it in your bum than into a joint.

Hope it kicks in and you get some relief soon! Mine took a few days to kick in but made a huge difference while it lasted.
