If you are prescribed painkillers that can be taken 1-2 tablets every 4 hours is it better to take 2 tablets every 4 hours or 1 tablet every 2 hours which would give you most pain relief.? Many thanks.

The point of painkillers is to relieve pain.......so take the dose and frequency which relieves the pain.
it depends on the nature of the pain. However, unless you plan to get up every 2 hours overnight, i would at least take the full dose at bedtime

Thanks Squad You always come up with a sensible answer and that seems pretty obvious. I guess it is trial and error.
Surely it is 'six of one, half dozen of the other' ? 1 tablet every 2 hours ensures you have a lower dose for the first 2 hours, but then you top it up again. 2 tablets every 4 hours means you get the larger dose initially, which would be more effective, but then it drops off more since it has to last longer before it gets topped up again.

IMO take 1, if it seems inadequate, take the other.
