Update on my niece
22 Answers
My niece has been in incredible pain for the last 10 days following her kidney & pancreas transplant. She was screaming the ward down on Friday and the surgeon was worried that one of the organs was being rejected. They took her back into theatre and when they opened her up both organs were fine but the surgeon was concerned about her appendix. They removed her appendix and when she came round on the ward the pain was gone - It just seems like one thing after another but she is rallying again bless her

Did they take out the appendix at the same time or wake her up and then do it? They can get into trouble if they do something without your permission.
I did not know that you could transplant just a pancreas. I thought you had to have a liver one as well.

They took her into theatre to determine what was causing the pain - I assume that they had her permission - but even if they didn't I'm sure that it wouldn't have been a problem as to leave the appendix in place could have proved very dangerous.
She has previously had a kidney transplant - donated by her father but that was beginning to fail and they always said that a kidney and pancreas transplant was the best thing for her
