I had a tooth (upper molar, right at the back next to where the wisdom tooth was) extracted two days ago. The dentist said yesterday it lloked ok, and I have another appointment on Monday. There has been no bleeding yesterday or today, but it hurts a lot and is still hot and swollen. Should I be concerned about infection or is this normal?

That should of course read "swelling"...
As a general rule, if you feel well in yourself....no aching pains in your limbs or feelings of being hot and sweaty, then it is not usually infected and the swelling is just reaction to the trauma.

Even if it were infected, there would be no danger in leaving it until you saw your dentist on Monday.

For the pain, dose yourself with Ibuprofen 600mgms.
And take the Ibuprofen every 6-8 hours .
Do not wait until you are climbing the walls with pain.
You can also take paracetamol in between up to 8 tablets in 24 hours.

Thank you, Sqad. I've already dosed myself on Ibufprofen. No, I'm not feeling hot and sweaty, so hopefully I'm safe!
Good point by ladyalex......;-)

So do I. I really don't need an infection as I'm due to have a knee op on Thursday and have no desire to postpone it. Thanks for your help.
Are you rinseing your mouth in salt water after eating and going to bed..? I had trouble with mine as I got a dry socket and just hope yours isnt going the same way. Good luck for thursday. xx

Actually I wasn't. My dentist never mentioned that to me. However, now you have mentioned it, I have just gone and done it as it's not long since I ate. I hope you recovered from the dry socket ok.
