Can I clean myself ot with salt water?
21 Answers
A close friend of mine has told me about a treatment to clean your system out drinking only salt water over a course of 5 days. I would like to get a second opinion on this matter from you ABers. Can you tell me just how to do this and what type of salt would I need?
I have been told to put 2 dessertspoons of water in 2 and a half litres of hot water and then drink that each day for 5 days in a row. Is this the correct method and have any of you ever done this?
Many thanks for your kind answers past and present.

Good grief. Salt water is a classic emetic, something to make you vomit if you've ingested poison.
Too much salt is seriously bad for your overall health and 2 dessert spoons is way too much. 6 grams a day is the recommended daily amount. Your kidneys won't cope, if you can keep the salt water down in the first place.
When I was a reckless teen on a bender I would drink a small glass of salt water to make me vomit. And it did!

@Johnny - Drinking salt water would be a very silly thing to do. Not to be recommended.
As for this idea of a kind of cleanse, or "detox" - what, precisely, do you imagine you are detoxing? The body is a wonderfully adapted mechanism of intermeshing organs, all homeostatically controlled, and this idea of detoxing is largely a fad designed to part people from their money.
If you wish to reduce some of the stimulants that your body is exposed to - coffee, alcohol, nicotine etc, and if you wish to restrict the calories your body consumes, these are worthy aims - but the idea of a detox to remove accumulated toxins is, simply, bunkum.
