Plantair Fasciatis - Steroid Injection

Hi, I'm due to get a steroid injection in my heel next week for painful plantair fasciatis. Just wondering in anyone can share their experiences, i.e. is it a painful process, was it sore immediately afterwards and more importantly, did it work?

It's nothing, honest. I had quite a few when I had this. There is no soreness, more like an immediate improvement, but ideally, rest it as much as you can for a day or so after. I was a postman so I always took the day after off just to allow it to settle. And it did work although that isn't always the case.

That's so reassuring - thankyou. My consultant assured me it would not be painful but I made the mistake of looking at a video on youtube! It would be great to be without pain so anything will be worth a try. Thank you again.

Yes, I've had it done, the actual injection was only slightly painful, no more or less than any other injection, it was slightly sore immediately afterwards, no worse than the pain of plantar fasciitis. I took it easy for the rest of the day, but after that I was fine and able to carry on as usual, can't remember whether the improvement was gradual or immediate, but it did work and two years on am still pain free. I will be honest and mention that the needle used seemed to me to be massive, but then considering the thick skin on the heel, I suppose it would need to be, my GP did mine and he gave me no warning that he was about to stick me :) but other than a slight flinch, it really wasn't that bad. Hope it works for you, it really has improved my life, I was supposed to get the other heel done a fortnight later, but the improvement in the one done helped my walking so much I didn't need to get the second one done.

Thanks Jules001 - thats all very reassuring - actually looking forward to it not - the thought of pain free walking! I've had this for over a year and my other foot has gone now too but my consultants said that it will improve with the other one. Thank you again.

I had this injection about 2 hours ago ,wasnt half as bad as i imagined it would ,injection site a bit sore ,Hopefully it will work for me .If it does going back in two weeks to have second one done ,good luck

Hi, I have had the injection twice, in the same foot, after a year of pain, and I'm pleased to say, I'm now cured. I think every body will have their own experience on how it felt, depending where in the foot the injection is given. Since April, I have been suffering with my other foot, I'm now considering asking for some intervention, as I'm fed up of being inactive. The few seconds of discomfort, by far outweigh the time spent being less able, and in pain. All the best sfulton.
