Indeed it is possible..

However i would prefer the term intolerance rather than allergy.
You can be allergic to anything. Your reaction to the substances concerned would signify it it was a true allergy or an intolerance. To know for certain you would need to be tested by a doctor.
Sweetcorn makes the missus go. You could re- can it, lol!
My husband is allergic to sweetcorn. He comes out in a rash, his face swells, he is violently sick. He has been hospitalised a few times because of this. He was told it is the outer part of the kernel that causes the problem.
probably similar to mine and Lady J's when it comes to bananas - that is a chitinase enzyme reaction that works on a glucose derivative....extreme reactions and histamine build-ups can result in anaphylactic (spelling?) shock - which I have had and I think Lady J has....
DT that sounds exacy like my husbands reaction. He has been unconscious before now because the reaction was so severe.
needs a shot of adrenalin to counter it. there are packs with needles that you can get, forget their name....
Hi Alison. I developed a severe allergy to peanuts about twenty years ago. I carry two epi pens and have had two very bad reactions. For some reason, at the same time, I also developed an intolerance to any food that is in the same family as a peanut. This includes corn and peas and anything that is or was a bean. The allergy and the intolerance are quite different.
To anyone who has the need for an Epi-Pen:

Ask your doctor to prescribe an Ana-Pen, they are the same thing but MUCH easier to administer. We had to change to these for my youngest daughter after her sister tried to inject her during an anaphylaxis episode and ended up with the Epi-Pen the wrong way up, she embedded the needle into the bone of her own thumb.
Ana-Pens don't require any force, you just put the pen against your thigh and press a button which releases the needle under pressure to inject the epinephrine.
