Back pain

for the first time in ages have terrible back pain. If i move my head forward the pain goes right the way down my back. Not sure if I have done anything to cause it. Have had this before some years ago. I resorted to pain killers then, any suggestion how to get this better without resorting to more medication.

any advice, help would be much appreciated, as i will be prone before long, and not in a good way.

i'm sorry, but as you have stated you don't want to use painkillers, i don't have any advice

ok, then painkillers, anything that does not upset your stomach, as ibuprofen do. I know from past experience that this goes away, but sometimes i have it for weeks, and been sofa bound.

This sounds like cervical spondylosis (wear and tear) and i am afraid that medication is the most appropriate way of dealing with it. Ibuprofen 600mgms up to 4 hourly if necessary would be my advice.

no chance, or at least not on the day. I have to go out in a while, this is such a nuisance.

i have osteoarthritis in lower back, which was found some years ago. But it hasn't bothered me in a while. This just came on suddenly and the pain on moving my head is horrible.

sqad, have taken them with food in the past don't know why but they don't agree with me. Don't drink milk.. Last time i bought Nurofen plus, they help, so maybe try that. This is a pain..

I take Co-codamol for back pain. You can buy them over the counter or get them with extra codeine from the doctor and I find the ones that dissolve work faster then tablets.

thank you, have some in the medicine cabinet, last time i took them felt very sick.

alba, thank you, might well do that, i don't have one, but will have a look later.
I have been laid up before, one time spent two weeks virtually immobile, pulled muscles in back and no amount of painkillers worked. Getting old ain't no fun.

bednobs is correct.............nurofen contains ibuprofen.

ok, but for some reason the last time took ibuprofen on it's own my stomach went into overdrive. Looks like it's more medication, damn.

i haven't because it's only been couple of days, and they are not easy to get appointments with, i do have another avenue, a health care professional so will try there, it's not till tomorrow, so off to chemist for some pain relief..
the other problem is i take other types of medication, and not sure whether they clash.
