I've had a copy letter saying I am ok to start methotraxate and they said my EGFR is 69 so to retest to monitor it.

Can anyone translate?

boxy has given you the gen.

In simple terms, you have a mild impairment of kidney function and this may or may not be a contra indication for the use of methotrexate.

It is a good idea to retest.

Thanks both. Hmmm wonder if that is something to do with the UTI type issues and blood/protein on and off. Is it anything to do with creatinine? I remember a test not long ago that had a raised level though I think it was a blood test. Hopefully it'll just sort itself back to normal - can it be one of those blip type results?

I hope it doesn't affect the methotrexate! Need to find a drug I can stay on.
the egfr doesn't rise it lowers in bad cases. Anything over 60 is "ok" although higher is better. I have a variable egfr (i presume owing to drugs i've taken) and i just get a pcr urine test every year and the egfr monitored

Thanks bednobs. Got my prescription today so starting on it tomorrow and getting my kidney test redone with my first bloods screening with that next week. So hoping this one works for me and I can tolerate it, got everything crossed!
