Has anyone suffered shortness of breath after a couple of weeks taking Statins? I know it's a possible side effect but so is everything else.

If so, did a change of tablet help?

I've been panting a bit.....
Question Author
I don't think I'm panting for the same reason Shoota......though????... ..mmm??? x
My OH is now on his third statin! First one made his joints ache and he shuffled along like an old man! Second affected his kidneys which ended up working at 16%! Now on third one which seems to affect his memory. Due to go back to docs next week.
No, not that problem myself..... Simvastatin and Atorvastatin gave me severe muscle pain, now on Fluorvastatin which (touch wood) seems OK so far.
Question Author
Thank you both. Not happy taking them and I will reconsider when I have had the scan.
I need to get my cholesterol down - I tried without them (when I was trying to recover from the muscle weakness) but the cholesterol went through the roof. My efforts at dietary control have unfortunately been rubbish.
I don't think that your shortness of breath has anything to do with statins.
This shortness of breath......is it related to exercise or does it come on at rest?
Question Author
Hello Sqad....I'm aware of it at rest but it's worse after exercise. It's exactly the type of breathlessness I had when I started taking the contraceptive pill and then badly, when I went on HRT. I don't wheeze. It's as if I can't fill my lungs with air. Gx
gness...hi!....you have been on holiday and my bet is that you have put on weight over that period of time and if so, then that is the more likely cause of your shortness of breath.

Yes....statins MAY have side effects, but in my opinion and in many cases these "side effects" emanate from the mind and not the statins.
Question Author
Sqad!!!!! You know how to charm a girl! I'm not overweight at all and didn't put any on when I was away.......slight tummy but that's all. :-)
I accept what you say about the mind but honestly I'm not really that obsessed.....I always assume all will be okay so I don't think I was expecting side effects.
I'm barrowing a load of topsoil now so I will push myself...and the barrow and see what happens. x
gness....right.
Question Author
Now....is that......right I'll go with that? Or is it.....Oh yeah...not overweight
.......riiiiiiight? ;-) x
The docs have stopped my statins and bp tabs say I have more serious probs.
Question Author
Do they know about your ladies Owd....could be the cause of your high BP?
LOL...."right you go with that".....;-)

You're off the hook Sqad. xxxx
Ha ha.
It's that e-ciggy, gness, rushes off
I have had muscle pain with them but my doc insists I keep taking them. My cholestrol was 9 and after a month on simvastatin it went down to 4.1 a few months later and totally sick of the muscle pain I asked my doc if I could come off them he agreed to a trial of 1 month and it was at 4.2 after a month I got retested and it was up to 10.1 so I was ordered to restart them immediately my mother has high cholestrol higher than mine and now she is at 4 some people are just prone to high cholestrol I know the muscle pains and breathlessness are awful but I think it is worth it.

Sibs!!!
My level is 6 and a little bit Gordie...not bad I think.OH and I had the same diet and his was 3. Life can be bloody unfair.
I don't mind being breathless now and again but not from swallowing a pill. There are more fun ways! ;-) x
