Can anyone recommend a cream to rub in? Do I use Deep Heat or something similar? Many thanks

Ibuleve. But it only helps a little.
If it's real sciatic pain, nothing you rub on will help. You'll need painkillers and/or anti-inflammatories....and possibly a doctor if it's really bad!
YOu need something to relieve it from the inside - see your GP.

Thank you all for your swift replies, I will visit my G.P.
until then, try a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a teatowel or pillowcase and laid on the root of the pain. Remove it once the pain subsides and be careful not to damage your skin. the peas can be refrozen and re used but don't eat them.
I agree with boxy....if it is true sciatica it will not be relieved by creams or gels.
i suffer with this ,and tried a good few medications nothing helped much. please be careful of tramadol it ruined me
