I'm no doctor emmie but I do have Type 2 diabetes and recognise your foot symptoms. Sometimes pain when drying between toes, sometimes not. Walking about in thin soled shoes is not for me, sturdiness is next to godliness.
My good lady suffered with plantar fasciitis for a while and had great difficulty in walking, your pain may be nerve related but all of that should be check if you're confirmed diabetic.
Simple moisturising helps greatly with my foot issues, possibly the massaging rather than the cream itself but well worth a go.

Whilst the finger prick test can indicate a problem what you really need is a fasting (my surgery says 14 hours) blood test to include 'HbA1c' which gives you an average reading of your blood / sugar level for the previous 3 months. Add to that a urine test for things like glucose and you get the annual check I have had to keep my type 2 under tablet control for the past 20+ years.
The finger prick check simply gives you a snapshot of your blood / sugar at that moment so might indicate problems but should not (in my opinion) be used for a full diagnosis.

You make diabetes sound complicated.
If before food or 2 hours after eating, your blood sugar by pin prick is normal, then you are not suffering from diabetes. If it is high, then you are suffering from diabetes and if it is borderline, then you may be prediabetic.
It is a cheap method and accurate in diagnosing diabetes in 99.9% of cases.
HB1Ac is useful in monitoring the treatment and progress of an established diagnosis.
I feel that urinalysis is rarely required now for the diagnosis of diabetes.
