Yes you get an injection and after than, even though nervous, you don't feel a lot, and if you do feel something it's minor and you can say easily enough. The anticipation is worse than the actual event. Not that I'd recommend it for pleasure, but you'll be fine.
Those toffees are a peril. Had one in the car as I was driving along the other day. Chewed it with the tooth with the inlay (the other side of the mouth to crown) and the next thing I knew the toffee had lifted the inlay right out ! Luckily I kept it as the dentist could clean and refit it. But that's another story.
A lot of the drilling isn't really drilling, it's sculpting and shaping and smoothing to get the crown site absolutely perfect. Then the dentist needs to take an accurate cast of where the crown's to go, and the hour almost certainly includes an allowance for a second shot at that, because it can go a little bit wrong even for the best dentists, and nothing but a perfect cast will do. You'll be fine.
I too am terrified of the dentist. I cry, shake, stop breathing and they feed me Lucozade lol.
After an illness a lot of work was needed so I had to have it done. One extraction, two root canals and 10 fillings later I believe them when they tell me it won't hurt. It doesn't.
They also let me wear a very loud stereo and use hand signals if they want to switch the drill on.
