I am wondering if anyone can help me please. Every now and then when I go up stairs (not down!) I have a funny turn where it feels like the step is wobbly or loose, and I have to grab the rail. Medically speaking I would probably be descriibed as young, fit and healthy. It's very odd, and is only a fleeting sensation. It first happened about 3 weeks ago and has happened about once a week since then. It's quite worrying as I have never experienced anything like it before. I don't feel dizzy as such, but it feels like the step moves and my footing goes strange but in reality the step is flat and true. Does anyone have any idea what might cause this? Thank you.
I've had something similar and it turned out to be a middle ear infection. It was horrible while it lasted, but once I'd seen the doctor and got a prescription (I think it was Stemetil) it soon cleared up.
Thanks for your replies. I'm not sure about vertigo, I certainly haven't ever had a fear of heights. But I am keeping open-minded. I wonder about a middle-ear infection and will bear that in mind.
pixie........indie is describing transient and "fleeting" episodes, whereas inner ear involvement produces severe and debilitating attacks of true vertigo.
Hmmm no joy I'm afraid, couldn't get a doctors appointment and I am travelling to see family over Christmas now so it might have to wait until the new year! Thanks for all your help and suggestions though, if I do ever find out I will try to remember to share. Happy Christmas! :)
I had a similar thing a few years ago. When sat down I had a feeling of falling of the chair. This was diagnosed as ideopathic vertigo which disappeared after a few weeks.
