Went for one yesterday, just an 'invitation to take up as you've reached that age'

(gee, thanks!)

Anyhoo, since the right breast took 3 attempts to x-ray have since been in discomfort, not in the breast, just the chest area around it and the right shoulder.

I've just strained the muscles a bit, I think.

Has anyone else suffered similarly?

Boxy, had a nasty smear result some years ago, so if anyone wants to smear me, squish me or prod for the sake of my health, I'll go.
Not willingly, but I will go :-)

Am glad your relative was spotted and treated successfully xx
\\\I can't imagine any situation where a mammogram would be helpful in men.\\\

That was my question boxy......."MEN"
Yes sqad - so what if there was no lump in the man, to give the advance warning, but some other symptom - is aspiration the only route to go? Not saying it has to be a (nigh impossible for many blokes) mammogram, what other scan might be used?
If there was no lump in a man......then why would he go to the dr.?
well exactly, he wouldn't know, any more than my female relative did. If men don't get checked in that department, they could have a breast cancer (not a lump) and not know it.
P.S...ai don't care what any site says........if i had a breast lump as a man i would want an excision biopsy.........*** to a scan.
Question Author
other symptoms maybe sqad?

But getting a man to the doc's isn't easy as it is.

Interesting Boxy, if they can ultrasound a man, why can't they do that for women? (Maybe they do, I honestly don't know)
Of course - it's the lumpless people I'm currently referring to.
\\\\\\they could have a breast cancer (not a lump) and not know it.\\\\

naaah!...that is fantasy.

I do not know the details of your friend, but almost certainly if this "thing" on mammogram had remained until it became palpable......the satisfactory outcome would have been the same.

However, I was commenting on MEN....as i mentioned.
alba......what other symptoms?

Breast cancer in men......symptoms are .....lump in breast. Nothing else..is there?
Possibly, sqad - she had no lump at all, no discomfort, nothing. Her cancer was only discovered by investigating the mysterious patch on the scan. I just wonder if that could be the same for men, too - I don't see why not.
boxy.....naaah!
Hmmmmm :-)
LOL...boxy....tell me......why would a man with no signs or symptoms in his breasts go to a GP and ask for a mammogram?
It would cost a fortune to routinely scan men for breast cancer wouldn`t it? The incidence is so low that it would not be cost effective, surely? If they find a lump, they get an ultrasound (as women do).
Alba, I had my first ever mammogram a few months ago and it only hurt while they were doing it but when I mentioned it to a friend of mine, she said she hurt for about 3 days after hers.
Sqad I am just reporting what the tech told me.
I remember my first mammogram...... and it really hurt.! I also had to have mine done 2 or 3 times. my leg was shaking with the pain and I hadnt realised it...very off putting. However I did go back again and theis time knew what to expect plus the lady was nicer..no trouble... I think prehaps the machine was slightly too high the first time which meant it was pulling. Sounds like the same has happened to you. Better next time for you also I hope. xBrenda

Thank you all.

Am feeling less sore today, in fact, almost back to old self.

Brenda, that's what happened to me, the leg vibrating thingy.
The staff are really lovely.

just to let anyone who might be interested, (probably no-one is, but hey-ho)
had a letter on Friday saying all was well and 'see you in 3 years time'
2 weeks from test to getting results, very good from the NHS.

I know some knock it, and some with valid reason, but I like the NHS :-)
