I am just experiencing something very strange, wonder if Sqad could advise me please? Every few minutes my nose just pours with a clearish fluid, I thought I was having a nose bleed but when I put the tissue to my nose, to my amazement it is clear, perhaps a bit tinged with yellow on the tissue. I don't have a cold at all and it is only from one nostril, it literally pumps out in waves just like a nose bleed. Where is this liquid coming from and is it serious? I must admit I'm a little anxious. Please help ....
Probably unrelated but years ago, after an unpleasant knock to the head, I got something similar draining, but in my case it made it's way to the back of the throat. Despite being kept in overnight for observation, nothing ever came of if. Have you have a knock or something ?
it is likely that you have had and still might have a polyp (benign growth) in either your nose OR in a related sinus which has burst and is pouring clear fluid. This is not uncommon, certainly not serious and will clear up within a week.
There are other causes of this (rhinorrhoea) but exceedingly rare and often associated with a serious head injury.
Ann, have you had a cold recently? Exactly the same thing happened to my daughter (35) a couple of weeks ago. It lasted a couple of days then went as quickly as it came.
Sqad, I did have Sarcoidosis (mainly showed as Lupus pernio) for several years and they took a biopsy from inside my nose. Could it be connected to that do you think?
Ann....that is very interesting..........YES......there could well be a connection as sarcoid can affect the nose and sinuses in many ways, such as setting up areas of inflammation and polyp formation.
My advice remains the same......monitor the situation.
I have also had a few other strange allergy symptoms recently, I was dead heading in the garden yesterday when a rash appeared stretching from my wrist to elbow, which was itching and hurting at the same time. I rubbed anti histamine in it and it disappeared. I get bitten too every time I venture outside this Summer! Maybe this nose business is an allergy but I had only just got out of bed when this happened.
Almost every time I attempt a bit of gardening I come back in with red itchy forearms. Never know what caused it, just have to put up with it :-( Blooming nature.
