I Had Two Large Infected Molars Taken Out On Saturday Morning And I'm Still In Pain.

The Dentist commented that I probably should have gone to the hospital to have them removed but he enjoyed a challenge. It took him an hour to get them out and now I feel the pain from my ear to the middle of my chin.
I am on my third course of antibiotics, I am also taking the following painkillers every 3 and a half hours day and night: 1 codeine 15mg, 1 ibuprofen 400mg and two paracetamol 500mg.
I know I am overdosing but not sure what else I can do, maybe a trip the see the pharmacist?
I got the dentist to check the extraction site yesterday and he said all is fine.

I'm happy to say that after a couple of days on the antibiotic the pain had gone - but this was two weeks after the extraction - I also completed the course.

Going from experience of having problems with a molar regarding pain medication I'd suggest not bothering with the codeine. Have you tried using soluble paracetamol (swilling around your mouth)? Generally with 'toothache' (if you can call it that) you need pretty strong analgesics which get into the bloodstream a lot quicker than ibuprofen and codeine. Even rubbing broken up paracetamol on the gum can work (tried and tested by myself) however the taste is pretty horrible. I'd be inclined to see my GP and see if they can suggest something different. Good luck anyway - I feel for you.
Ah I see. I thought you had been prescribed/recommended that overdose. If the dentist didn't recommend anything then I can only echo the suggestion others have, to see the doc. Personally I am awaiting a promised antibiotic prescription in the post, but I'm unsure if that is applicable in your own case; I suspect it depends io the reason for the pain. If the extraction site is "fine", a GP prescription for something stronger sounds a good bet. Do you have one of those 'walk in' places near you ? Or even a A&E (or whatever the new name is for folk turning up in need) at your local hospital ?
Technically if you only take 4g of paracetamol a day even at 3hr 30 intervals you are barely overdosing. Hospital give 1g of paracetamol sometimes every 3hrs 30 instead of 4 hours. It more about the overall dosage and length of time you're on them that is a concern. As long as you don't take 8 tablets at once.... I read somewhere in a research article that American hospitals don't consider someone to have overdosed until they consume over 38g of paracetamol in 24 hours; that's a whopping 76 tablets.
