I have googled this but have not come up with a satisfactory answer. What is the difference between a nursing home and a care home? Does anyone have any experience of moving a relative from a care home to a nursing home.
I know nursing homes have nurses on hand but is the level of care better. I am in such a quandary as to what my Dad's best interests are.
I'm off now. I've had an exhausting weekend. I'll be back tomorrow to look at the rest of the comments. Thanks to you all for your unparalleled help. I really do appreciate the time and trouble you have given to this post.
read the links Tilly , the care homes themselves usually do not realise the implications of S117 aftercare. The local authorities do not expect people to know about S117 after care either and try to get away without paying for the care of discharged S117 patients. You need to read up on it and do some research , but you should be able to get completely free care provided by the local authority . Be prepared, they don't expect people to know about S117 aftercare and will try to get out of their responsibility to pay.
Eddie, thank you. My day's funding is paid under section 117, after a long battle. My post was really to do with how he would be better of with Nursing care rather than Care home care. Anyway, after a long and arduous day, my Dad has now had all intervention care removed and is now on a palliative care programme.
I just hope for a peaceful and dignified ending for him.
Tilly, I'm in exactly in the same situation with my mother at the moment and I'm told that a nursing home has a higher level of care and often requires more staff to care for them.
I guess it depends on how independent the person is.
My mum also has dementia and the doctor at the hospital agrees with me that nursing care is now the most appropriate option, so thats what I'm aiming for now.
Hope it all works out well for you and your dad.
