Review Of Medication

Just after receiving a voice mail from a "Fiona" - don't know what she is -= a nurse, receptionist or whatever - I do know she is not a doctor.

All surgeries (mine are closed on a Wednesday) - has left a message saying could you contact surgery to get your medication reviewed.

Now I am worried that they are going to take me off the anxiety tablets - I will be like a string bean again. My sis thinks it is a nurse who thinks they can take you off the tablets so she is suggesting if it happens for me to go back to the doctors who I told you before wants everybody off these anxiety tablets. If I am knocked back - who next can you go to. btw I am on other tablets - ie statatins but do think it is the anxiety tablets. Rang the number immediately back but that;s their day off - no answer.

yes Bathsheba - it happened to a friend of my sisters about 3 years ago and friend went insane - 5mg she was on. - I think they were ASOS then - but she went through a wee bit of a nightmare and went to her doctors who put her back on them.

Bathsheba - I sometimes come across cheeky on here but when it comes to doctors I suffer from white coat syndrome so hope I am cheeky enough when it comes to this.

retro - they would give you an emergency appointment but what was wrong with me waiting 4-5 weeks was not an emergency as I had been suffering for a year and a half and also self medicating you know creams, washes blah blah.

retro - it will be a practice nurse - of that I can reassure myself - cos my two doctors names are such and such.

I see , you did not mind the wait - that's different but certain things can develop quite quickly over 4/5 weeks making them harder to treat, for example certain infections.

Oh I know that Mamy - if the pain was intensive i would have been there like a shot.

JJ...I've done some asking around with friends who work in different practices and there doesn't seem to be any initiative in place to get patients off diazepam....but they are only meant to be taken for a maximum of 4 weeks,..lol...I've been on them for over 6 years now...:/

Well - as you know it was a voicemail that I got and I don't hear them too well - I got a kid to come over and listen for me and she was able to tell me a wee bit but she did not get word for word.

I am just after hearing and hearing and hearing - she said Hello it is Roisin from the surgery (don't know who she is) - could you contact the surgery for a Medical Review Service. Now that does help anybody.

or medical service review - those are the exact words. Is that what the old ASOS do - will it be a nurse or a doctor.

I always thought it was GMC guidelines that anyone on repeat prescriptions had to have a regular review. This being to ensure that the drugs are still suitable to the patient and discuss any side effects.
Our surgery has us in every 6 months to do this. In my husbands case every alternate appointment involves a visit to hospital for blood tests. They have changed his drugs on a couple of occasions as a new and more suitable product has come on the market.

I am sure it will just be routine review and you have nothing to worry about

sorry my fault there - they were ATOS - if you are interested you could google - but there were a lot of faults and they dismissed or left themselves as they couldn't cope. ATOS.

My only dealings with ATOS have been related to qualification for benefits not medication.

Most GP Surgeries run their own budgets (though not all) so obviously they do want to be sure they are only prescribing the medication the patient is using.

Certain prescriptions require more thorough reviewing as long term use can have other side effects after a while, blood tests etc to test that they are not causing problems elsewhere in the body.

I'm sure your review will be fine, just be calm and explain how things are with you and what helps you.
