In our area whenever there was a games night the buffet always included black pudding sandwiches and a pot of mustard for garnish and they were usually the first sandwiches to go.,closely followed by the dripping especially if it had a lot of "jelly" in it.Cholesterol hadn't been invented in those days
LOL there. Cold with salt and vinegar, or boiled up with onions. All the chippies used to sell tripe in S.O.T. when I was a lad. Now it's those vile kebabs. Chitterlings there's a thought.l
Same in my local, paddywak. Black pudding, sliced onion, pork pie and chunks of cheese and bread. Heaven.
Funny thing, togo, I had chitterlings for the first time in years and years just before Christmas. Pressed, I never could bring myself to try the loose, wimp that I am. Very nice it was too.
One of the best feel good nutricious ,filling, warming.healthy winter stews is a Spanish peasant dish called
Fabadas Asturianas that I do. Tons of Black Pud.cabbage ,pots, chrizo and loads of beans (Fabadas).Cooks in the fat from the black pud and chorizo and then loads of stock. Very nutricious and tasty.
I remember when Butchers were happy to give away lamb shanks. Thanks to these arty crafty ruddy TV cookery programmes on TV the price has gone through the roof. I love cooking with offal.
Favourite Phillipino dish I do is Kare Kare. Tripe, Oxtail and peanut butter stew. All cheap offal ingredients once upon a time but now .??
