used to be used...if you want to walk around brightly stained !! no idea about chemists selling it though..can't you just use Dettol/Savlon/Germoline ??

Used a lot when i was a kid,by the end of the summer most kids looked like they were suffering from the purple spotted lurgey.

Hurts when you out it on too.

I'd use Savlon. Cream or liquid , get it from any chemist.
Doesn't hurt and doesn't stain.

It was applied to my foot when on holiday years ago. It was quite a big cut as well.

Yes.......but it is "frowned upon" by the modern medical profession as it may cause surrounding tissue damage.
You can buy dressings impregnated with iodine which are very effective for small cuts.

I remember my grandmother used to put a teasoonful of iodine into a glass of milk, and drink it. Something to do with her goitre. Don't think many doctors would recommend that nowadays.

I had an iodine dressing put on a blister on my bunion by a young chiropodist. She didn't have a clue when I said why isn't it purple? It was a yellow colour.
